An Australian First: AWGN's Mums and Bubs Golf Clinic Unites Women in Unprecedented Success
Yesterday marked a heartwarming milestone for women across Australia as the Australian Women's Golf Network hosted its first-ever Mums and Bubs Golf Program at Yarra Bend Golf Club in Victoria. The brainchild of AWGN's new Ambassador, Hannah Bentley, and her 5-month-old son Cooper, this pilot program was launched to connect women in a healthy and fun way while teaching them new golf skills.
The initiative received overwhelming interest locally and nationally, with women in Brisbane eagerly inquiring about the program's expansion. Hannah, delighted by the success, said, "It's been incredible to see so many women come together to learn, support one another, and create new bonds. The energy and excitement on the day were amazing, and I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of this journey."
This Australian first was made possible with the unwavering support of General Manager John McKay and his dedicated team at Yarra Bend Golf Club. John shared his enthusiasm for the program: "We were delighted to host this innovative and inclusive event. Creating a welcoming environment for new mothers and their little ones is essential, and we're proud to be at the forefront of such a forward-thinking initiative."
The pilot program transformed the picturesque golf course into a family-friendly haven, with a private function room for nursing and changing, safe practice areas away from the general public, and the guidance of seasoned golf professional Wanasa Zhou. Assisted by AWGN co-founder Jessica Eden, the clinic proved to be a remarkable success, celebrating the unique bond between mothers and their children while introducing them to the joys of golf.
Wanasa's 16 years of experience in golf, ranging from her US collegiate career, playing professionally on Tour to now coaching, brought a wealth of knowledge to the clinic. Though she admitted that navigating the greens with babies in tow was a novel experience, her expertise, assisted by Jessica's passionate support, created an unforgettable and enriching experience for all involved.
Jessica added, "It's so wonderful to see the joy and new friendships this new program has created. We're very grateful for Wanasa's patience and guidance, and the Yarra Bend Golf Club's commitment to promoting inclusivity and wellness through golf. They may have now earned the title of Australia's most inclusive golf club!"
The Mums and Bubs golf clinic provided participants with a unique opportunity to connect with other women in a similar life stage, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Women left the event feeling empowered and encouraged, having improved their golf skills and forming new friendships. By merging the worlds of motherhood and golf, the clinic created a space for women to prioritise their well-being and personal development in a supportive environment.
The event sold out in three days, leaving an eager waitlist for next month's clinic. Major partners included Callaway, who provided prizes for the event, and The House of Golf, $100 gift vouchers for a fun putting competition.
The City of Boroondara and Maternal & Child Health also lent their support to the initiative, aiding AWGN in creating new pathways for women to connect and prioritise their wellness.
As AWGN sets its sights on a national expansion of the Mums and Bubs golf clinic series for Spring, they seek a major partner to sponsor this groundbreaking program focused on new mothers' health and wellness.
